THE OVERVIEW EFFECT
Most astronauts in orbit have experienced a profound love for the Earth and a deep feeling of oneness that transformed their life. It is called the Overview Effect. This name has been imagined by Frank White who studied this transformation in his seminal book “The Overview Effect – Space Exploration and Human Evolution”. He showed that the combined effect of zero gravity, silence, fear and exposure to the mesmerising beauty of the rotating Earth created all the pre-conditions for a life-changing mystical experience.
On December, 7th 2012, for the 40th birthday of Blue Marble, film director Guy Reid and the team of Planetary Collective released a marvelous short-movie called “Overview”, inspired by the book of Frank White and this unique perspective brought by astronauts. This movie can be watched for free on Vimeo (link below) and was the nucleus of their amazing movie Planetary.
These movies are the best ever made on this subject and they express exactly the kind of mindset shift that we would like to trigger with Blueturn.

Once a photograph of the Earth, taken from outside, is available, we shall, in an emotional sense, acquire an additional dimension. Why haven’t we seen a photograph of the whole Earth yet ? (1966)
